Holiday Tournament Showcases North & South Talent

The idea of the Big Apple/Big Peach Battle came from B’Ball 101 creators Dorian Lee and Bobby Parker who had a vision of pitting talented teams against each other from the New York City area and the state of Georgia. In addition to the on court action, the day before Turkey Day the Big Apple/Big Peach staff held some life lesson sessions for the players. The series of workshops included collegiate eligibility center registration, a financial literacy seminar, and keynote messages from former Heisman Trophy winner Charlie Ward and WNBA player Chamique Holdsclaw.

As far as what happened on the floor, both states took the floor with similar styles. All teams looked to play with an uptempo style and with this being the early part of the high school basketball season spectators were subjected to some sloppy play, but nonetheless most of the games went down to the wire. At the events end the teams from NYC and Georgia finished the weekend with identical 3-3 records with Lovejoy HS(GA) and South Shore HS(NY) being the big winners by winning both of their games.
